Lectures are 50 - 60 minute presentations designed for group settings such as guild meetings or friendship group meetings. These lectures provide the quilter with information and ideas to kindle the creative processes of quilt-making.
A Little Girl’s Dream to
Award-Winning Quilter
From her Barbie doll quilt made at the age of 9,
to her blue-ribbon winners, Marci shares her experiences using projects
in various
stages of completion. This down-to-earth presentation of some never-to-be-finished
projects, some “maturing” projects, and of course those
completed and being used items will encourage quilters of all levels
to and satisfaction and joy in their projects.
Designs to Quilt By
We all know that the quilt design affects our level
of satisfaction at completion of a project. Deciding on the perfect
quilting to
accentuate the top is often a roadblock to finishing. This discussion
covers the different types of quilting designs, the benefits and
the limitations of each, and the considerations for hand, machine,
or long-arm methods. Marci shares actual quilts as samples to explore
various quilting designs.
Quantum Leap Quilting
Tips and tricks, saving time, and still a perfect quilt!?! Marci
shares a plethora of new ideas by identifying basic problems and
sharing her solutions. You will not only know how something works,
but WHY it works. This is an adaptive lecture customized to fit your
group’s interest and direction. Subjects include: bindings,
foundation piecing, pressing and trimming for perfect piecing, joining
strips, rotary cutting for borders and bias strips, and many more.

You don’t have to go under cover as a secret agent to learn the ins and outs of making a perfect binding, just come to this Know Before You Sew binding class. You’ll learn all of the causes and therefore you will avoid the common problems like rounded, pointed, and tucked in corners, lumpy finishes, and the one most often made and my personal pet peeve --- bindings that are not filled to the edge. You will learn the basics of bindings including bias, straight-of-grain, double-fold (French binding), mitered corners for all angles, 1/4” and other finished widths, and more. If these terms don’t mean anything, they will after the class. You will have a sample to take home for later reference. Instead of machines we will be pinning and / or tacking with thread since there is a minimal amount of sewing. Everyone Foundation Pieces Easily with the Clearview of Quilting™ method. Discover the fun and freedom of foundation piecing (commonly referred to as paper piecing). You’ll learn the basics of color and value and play with lots of fabric swatches for several exercises. These exercises will train your brain and eyes for color and value! Learn how to sort fabrics by value including the effect of large and small prints. Next time you are picking fabric at a store, you’ll find it easier and you’ll know why you like your choices. Your color confidence will soar! |
Amazingly simple techniques result in simply amazing quilts! Take a look at log cabin designs from a whole new angle as designed by Sara Nephew. Marci Baker’s explicit step-by-step instructions will have students constructing log cabin diamonds and triangles to create unusual and gorgeous designs. Just cut up your scraps and paint with strips. These are some of the subjects covered, as well as, stripping and trimming vs. cutting shaped strips individually, using unusual fabrics on a foundation, value and color, special effects, squaring up, and pressing techniques. After this class, you can produce a wealth of beautiful designs and you will want to make more than one! |
Strip-piecing makes these quilts fast and value selection makes them 3-D. Bring in some of your favorite fabrics and we’ll sort them by value so your design will be spectacular! Students begin to cut strips and speed-piece with good progress possible in one day.
